YMCA Around the World

The YMCA of Hong Kong is excited to again be offering its International Camping Programmes this year. We are offering NEW Camp opportunities to join in a YMCA experience like no other. The YMCA of Hong Kong Camping Section is working together with YMCAs around the world including  the YMCA of Greater Vancouver, Canada, the YMCA of Penang, Malaysia and the Lakeside YMCA National Centre, UK, to make this wonderful camp opportunity possible.

Programme Overview

In each camp session, children will be involved in excellent programmes including activities such as waterfront sports, creative arts, environmental programmes, tent camping and evening campfires. They share cabins and participate in the programmes alongside children their own age from all over the World. Campers stay in clean, comfortable cabins with other campers of their own age and gender, and participate in a wide variety of traditional camp activities.

Dakota Section (12-14 Years)

Campers in the Dakota Section will be given the opportunity to experience all of the activities that Camp Elphinstone has to offer with a balance of personal choice activities and cabin based programs. Cabin activities will be lead by Group Leaders who will guide them through stages of small group development in order to achieve a sense of belonging and community within the section. August 15 - 28 YMCA Camp Howdy (Canada)

On the Eastern shores of Indian Arm, between the mountains and the seashore, you will find YMCA Camp Howdy. Surrounded by Belcarra Regional Park, it is a secluded, peaceful setting for a memorable camp experience. For over 60 years, Camp Howdy has been dedicated to working with young people in summer camping programs, building positive identity and self esteem. Through sensitive, competent leadership, we ensure that each camper has the opportunity to grow and learn as an individual within a cabin group setting.

Junior Section (6 - 11 years)
A wonderful introduction to summer camping. Counselors help young campers adapt to an unfamiliar environment through individual attention and care. Age-appropriate program activities include arts & crafts, swimming, archery, canoeing, orienteering and voyageur canoeing.

Senior Section (12 - 14 years)
A more structured environment for campers to develop their skills. Possible activities include orienteering, low ropes, rock climbing, kayaking, swimming, canoeing and archery. Our older Senior Campers will have an opportunity to experience an overnight trip on the Indian Arm

Vancouver City Tour
(only available for Camps Howdy and Elphinstone)
Guided by our own YMCA of HK staff, campers will have the opportunity to visit Vancouver’s featured attractions and to taste Canada’s city life. The campers will travel by public transport (bus and Skytrain) to visit Vancouver’s downtown, Chinatown as well as adventurous attractions like Capilano Suspension Bridge and Tree Top Adventure.
